The aim of this procedure is to ensure all factors related to chemical substance including: storage, purchase, use and disposal of chemical substance within ABC cleaning company at Brisbane airport are controlled and managed.2. Scope This procedure applies to all staff within the company including cleaners, director, supervisors, trainees and visitors. It also covers both international and domestic terminals including airsides.3. Definition: 3.1 Exposure, occurs when a person, environment or property comes into contact with hazard3.2: Control means implementing anything that aims to eliminate or at least reduce risk of a hazard.3.3 Hazardous chemical is any chemical substance that has the potential to harm health or safety of a person, property or environment by releasing energy. Hazardous chemical term includes dangerous goods and poisons (Victoria Sate Government 2017).3.4 Research substance is a term to be used for new chemicals that there is not much information about its component including such as chemical, physical, toxicological and health and safety properties.3.5 Safety Data Sheets are documents that produce by manufacturers or importers about specific chemical substance, providing information in relation to handling, storing and using the substance.3.6 UN number: United Nation number is a four-digit number given to specific chemical substance or group of chemical substance by United Nation.3.7 Atmospheric monitoring is a practice whereby air is tested within the breathing zone of the worker to estimate personal exposure to airborne contaminants.4. Responsibilities:4.1 Director of ABC (person conducting a business or undertaking) cleaning business is responsible for:
Providing sufficient resources to disposal chemical waste
Providing necessary information about each individual chemical substance in particular where dealing with research substance as research substance must be on ABC chemical inventory system and approved by director of the company in consultation with Work Safe Queensland
Ensuring an effective risk assessment process is in placed in storage, use or disposal of chemical substance
Providing appropriate resources as well as facilities at work place to ensure comply with Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011(RMIT University 2017)
4.2 Shift Team Leaders:
Conducting a regular risk assessment for the storage and handling chemical substance:
One immediate risk assessment when new product introduced to workplace
One risk assessment at the end of team leaders weekly roster (end of 5 days work roster)
Assessing risks of chemical products and if product considered to be at an unaccepted level of risk, use of that specific product shall be banned by team leader
Documenting, recording and addressing risks associated with every individual chemical substance
Providing professional and clear training and supervisor on dealing with chemical substance
Approving hazardous chemical when they are purchased by purchasing officer
4.3 Cleaners responsible for:
Contributing and accepting responsibilities to safe operation procedures about use, storage, handling and disposal procedures that have been implemented and authorised by director of the company
Utilising appropriate facilities as well as personal protection equipment
Conducting annual work inspection to check integrity of products and material
